The Rules of the Award:
1.) Thank the blogger who nominated you, and link back to that page.
2.) Post the award picture on your blog.
3.) Write a short paragraph about yourself and what your blog means to you.
4.) If you could be any animal, what would you be?
5.) Pick and notify ten nominees.
A Little About Me And What My Blog Means To Me:
I am a writer who has come to writing later in life and a college teacher for several decades. I am committed to an exploration of life and ideas. Reading has always been a crucial part of who I am, and I am blessed with being able to share that love of books in both my classes and now through my blog. I hope to be able to share the work that I am producing through my novel writing and to connect with others who are exploring and discussing their ideas. I feel very lucky to have made contact with so many wonderful people through this blog.
If I Were A Spirit Animal, I Would Be:
a wolf. I had to think very hard about this choice, because I have a deep affinity with several animals, but the wolf is loyal, brave, and adventurous. I realize many are afraid of these animals, but wolves do get a bad reputation from various horror movies, including some I have enjoyed and reviewed. The true nature of the wolf, however, is strong and admirable, so I am always moved when I see photos of these beautiful animals; therefore, I hope I would be a spirit wolf.

Hi Charles,
I concur with Irene! What a terrific choice to choose the wolf as your spirit animal, not to mention that the wolf is a keystone species required for maintaining the ecosystemic health of certain bioregions!
You can see the wolf and the moon as well as my poem in the special post published at https://soundeagle.wordpress.com/2012/10/02/if-my-name-were-moon-tonight/

Congratulations. Wolves are special in my life too. I had Alaskan Malemutes and did a lot of studying on wolves because they are kind of related.

Thank you! Did the Malemutes show any wolf behavior?

In a way, yes. Stalking and keeping quiet while doing it was one thing. They were not aggressive as many people say. The bitch was also a very protective mother. They also did not really bark, more a howling sound.

My male was a real show dog. I won many first places and also best of breed also. He loved to talk to me!

My spirit animal is the turtle which represents “Mother Earth.” Many years ago, as a college student, a friend gave me a turtle with a card saying, “Behold the turtle. He only advances when he sticks his neck out.” That pretty much fit my character. I had a habit of sticking my neck out. Oftentimes it worked out well. Other times, not so much. Still that way today.

In some mythologies, I believe the turtle is a creature that holds the world on its back. Although, I am not certain of this.

Hi Sue and Charles,
How very nice it is to be given such a card! May you keep sticking your neck out, Sue, especially for some good causes!
Speaking of turtle being a spirit animal or symbolic altered ego, you are very welcome to enjoy my poem and graphics dedicated to the SeaTurtle (as well as SoundEagle) at https://soundeagle.wordpress.com/2012/09/05/soundeagle-in-art-and-poetry/

You might like to consider changing your comment setting such that those who have commented once before will not require your approval. 🙂

Perhaps, but that would be even more technological stuff to do!

It is quite easy to do as follows: Under the “Discussion” Settings, go to the section “Before a comment appears” and check the box with “Comment author must have a previously approved comment”.

Thanks, but there is another reason I keep control over all comments–occasionally I have had to deal with rude people, and this is the best way. I do not mean you–it has happened rarely, but it has happened.

I understand, so long as you realize that there is a significant risk of some comments falling through the cracks because they are never approved as a result of escaping your attention.

I do understand, and I hope it does not happen. As an absent-minded professor, I would not be shocked though!

Just absent-minded, but not nearly as nutty as Richard Dreyfuss starring against Barbra Streisand in the movie “Nuts”. 😉

As frightened as I am of the wolf – something about their eyes – they are raw and wildly beautiful, amazing creatures!

Thanks. Nice to get insights here. I would be conflicted between choosing the Wolf or the raven. I see someone mentioned the Turtle – if you haven’t read it Russell Hoban’s Turtle Diary is a great book with immense mythological power. Very much enjoying my visits here. Regards Thom.
