The Old Lie

Standard

Please, in the name of the victims of the most recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida, let us begin to do something to change the national insanity of gun deaths.

Stop with the old lie — “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” It is illogical, fallacious, wrong, and stupid. Guns are weapons and are designed to expel bullets that are intended to kill. That is their purpose. That is why they exist.

Guns kill people.

Guns are not used to make paintings; they are not used to drive screws into wood; they are not made to make omelets; they are not created to write letters; and they are not aimed at making sculptures.

Guns are made to kill. That is their purpose.

The United States has a history of gun ownership based on the 2nd Amendment. As  I would say to my students, please do a close reading, parse the language, and understate what it says. If you do, then the phrase “A well-regulated militia” is crucial to understand. The militia of today is the National Guard–that is the militia of the United States of America. If you believe in the 2nd Amendment, then you should enlist in the National Guard.

Guns do kill people. Let us never forget that. And let us stop accepting the old lie.

If bloggers read this, please note, if you have an AR 15, you are not a “A well-regulated militia” by the United States of America as it states in our constitution. So, that means you should not have a weapon of war. If you wish to un-follow – please do.

  2. I reblogged your very intelligent, well said, argument against weapons of war in individual hands that are, by our Constitution, illegally owned. These weapons of war by individuals are not “a well-regulated militia”. Thank you, Charles, for posting this correct information for people who have not read the our Constitution.

As Charles so eloquently expresses, it is time to read and understand the constitution. The 2nd amendment was not intended to provide citizens the right to purchase assault rifles.
Stand up for the lives of our most precious commodity, our children, or will we wait until they fix the problem at the polls.

  4. I am further disturbed by the story of the young man who was taken down by police and detained because he was mistaken for the shooter, physically resembling him.

What in the world would we be looking at if teachers and others with GUNS had mistaken him for the shooter based on the description? Let me tell you: murder charges for someone trying to be a hero, yet another unnecessary set of grieving parents, another tragic loss of an unrealized life, and the ruination of the would-be hero’s life. Don’t tell me arming potential victims saves lives until ALL of the factors for errors can be eliminated!

  5. Propaganda and long held instilled beliefs — the age old obstacles to real change. And of course, the desire to profit. It needs a revolution to make a big change. Meaning it is time to stop thinking that voting is sufficient because the majority of the people are sheep. Evidence is clear. We are always in the same situation.

  6. Thanks for liking my interview with author Rachel Wright. You are so right about the situation regarding guns in USA. For most people outside the country it is puzzling, to say the least, that so many of your fellow citizens think the way they do about guns.
