“Freedom of the Press, if it means anything at all, means the freedom to criticize and oppose”
George Orwell
“Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.”
Thomas Jefferson
“Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.”
Benjamin Franklin
“Let us never forget that those who oppress freedom by attacking the freedom of the press are neither patriots nor lovers of democracy.”
Charles F. French

Le Donald just tweeted,
the press is America’s number 1 enemy.
It is so good to have a paragon of virtue like the Dumpster,
telling us who to fear.
Not him of course,
because,
as he said,
“I am a really smart guy.
Doesn’t absurdity have a limit?

I agree with all the quotes and yours as much as the others. I know the pattern all too well. I keep hoping to turn on the news one morning to hear we have a major change in management, but it doesn’t come so I turn it off. Those that condone this behavior are just as bad.

yes, they are, and I continue to have optimism that changes are coming.

A nice selection of quotes, Charles, including yours. There is little freedom of speech for people in Africa unless they are in government and then they say what they like.

My imagination is running the show today. My thoughts of the currrent situations in America and the arrival, via time portal, of one of my all-time favorite authors. I’ve no doubt that Jonathan Swift would have a powerful message for us all and perhaps another, Modest Proposal. N’est pas?

Yes, I wonder what Swift would have said.
