It has been a while since I have given a writing progress update, so I thought it was time to do so. I have been busy with several projects, but, of course, I am not quite where I want to be. The important detail, though, is that I am continuing to write every day. I hope that all of you do this also.
*I have 55 pages done on the first draft of a political thriller. I hope to have this first draft done sometime in March.
*I have completed 177 pages of draft # 2 of the fantasy novel, that is now book # 1 in a trilogy. I originally thought of this one as a modest mid-grade fantasy, but it is too violent for 6-8 graders, and the themes encompass adult issues. So while the protagonists are 13, it is now an adult fantasy. Does this make sense?
*I am putting together a small book on the recipes and menus from the characters from the I. P. S., the Investigative Paranormal Society from Maledicus: The Investigative Paranormal Society, Book 1 and Gallows Hill: The Investigative Paranormal Society, Book 2. I want to have this out in the late spring.
*I am working with my publisher–doesn’t that sound wonderful!–on my next writing book–Get The Draft Done–which should be out sometime this Spring.
So, now that I have updated you, I ask all of you: what are you currently writing?
Gallows Hill can be found here in ebook.
Gallows Hill in paperback can be found here.

My radio interview:
Reading your updates and knowing what the process is like makes me feel for you. How do you manage to do two projects at the same time? I am on a third draft of my first novel and it is almost ready (perfectionist, yes that’s me) to be sent off. It is exciting but I massively underestimated the time and effort that goes into writing, never mind the drive needed to sit down and literally self-evaluate every single day. Fair play to you 🙂

Thank you, and good luck! I love writing, and I always work on one first draft of a novel at a time, but I also do revisions of other works while doing that draft.

It sounds like good progress. There are adult books with young teenage protagonists. It comes to mind as well as The Long Walk both by Stephen King.

Wow! Thats great. I am trying to write a children’s book. Well, more accurately Im thinking about writing a children’s book. I have the storyline and characters on paper. But that is as far as I can get for the moment. 😊

I suggest you begin drafting it today!

I’m 90% through the rough draft of my third book. It’s a crime novel set in space, and the extensive research I had to do up front as I outlined the story is paying off in a fairly smooth flow of words onto paper. It’d be a pain to have to stop now and research; instead, I can follow my Muse.

I’m getting the sense that you’re a very prolific writer, Charles!
I’m currently working on a new short story based on a trip my family took to New Orleans in 1960. (I think.) The more I work on it, the darker it gets.

Sometimes, the tales take the writer where they wish to go.

Indeed they do.

You are continuously an inspiration to me! You constantly amaze me with how much you get done and how passionate you remain about your writing! I aspire to get on this level one day!
But to answer your question I’m continuing my freelance articles, updating both blogs once a week, and working on my novel (though it’s just brainstorming right now).

Awesome Charles, it’s great to hear that you’re making progress! I don’t know what it feels like to be where one wants to be?
I’m actually working on my first magazine article. It’s not going to be a life-changer or anything, but it’s a start.

At the moment, I’m focused on keeping up with my blog, and trying to finish a story from a writing tag, that I’ve been putting off for far too long. It’s my first attempt at fiction in…I don’t even know how long.

“What am I doing?” you ask. I’m starting to form some sort of outline for the “cats and dogs” novel that you’d like me to write. Good luck with everything Prof. Chuck.
