I just found this post, and I need to reblog it, because it is powerful and crucial for us to read.
Jamie Dedes' THE POET BY DAY Webzine
Regular Sunday Announcements are in process and will post later today, but yesterday was International Holocaust Rememberence Day. I share the poem of a child imprisoned and murdered at Theresienstadt Concentration Camp. We remember it with the hope that there will never be another genocide and that children of every race, country and creed will be allowed to fulfill their promise, to grow up, to grow old and to die in God’s time. Even as we do, there are genocides currently happening around the world, ten of which are full-blown. Ironically, “prominent scholars of the international law crime of genocide and human rights authorities take the position that Israel’s policies toward the Palestinian people could constitute a form of genocide.” Details HERE. May all sentient beings find peace.
I Never Saw Another Butterfly

The last, the very last,
So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow.

Such a moving poem. I recently read ‘Schindler ‘s List. So sad and so unbelievable what man does to fellow man. And, yes, the atrocities continue. Sad.

Yes, and we must always learn from the past and try to prevent them again in the present and future.

Agreed, unfortunately mankind has been saying that forever. Well, we can keep trying, right? Have a great day!

That poem title became the title of a book, I don’t know if it is still in print, which is a collection of art and writings of children in the camps. When I first learned of the book I managed to track down a used copy. Imagine what the children in cages along your southern border might leave? Thanks.

This makes my blood run cold, Charles. I am currently researching the South African concentration camps during the Second Anglo Boer War, these were the first ever, too awful for words.

Regardless of the reason given, it is always wrong and evil.
