I thought I would continue this series on favorite writers by asking specifically about Fantasy today. I have addressed Speculative and Science-fiction writers, but now let us consider those we love reading in Fantasy.
Here is a brief list of some of my favorites:
J. R. R. Tolkien and The Lord Of The Rings

J. K. Rowling The Harry Potter Series

Ray Bradbury Something Wicked This Way Comes
These writers are only a few of many possible whom I might have listed.
Terry Pratchett, Jim Webster, Charles E. Yallowitz, are my favourites 😃

I haven’t read a lot of fantasy beyond childhood books, and I’m not sure why. Some of Alice Hoffman’s books may be considered fantasy, and I truly enjoyed “The Rules of Magic.” A fantasy author who I plan to try is Neil Gaiman.

For me it was Fantasy writers from Childhood. The first truly Magical book I read was “The Enchanted Wood” by Enid Blyton and it was AMAZING! Quickly followed by The Magic Faraway Tree and the Folk of the Faraway Tree. So Enid Blyton was my favourite fantasy writer from childhood. CS Lewis was another favourite. “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” was one of my favourite books growing up. In my twenties I LOVED the author Christopher Pike and thought his books were fantastic. “Spellbound” in particular stood out. Just an amazing author. I need to get back into fantasy reading as an adult as I get too distracted by other things! 🙂

All of the above but especially Terry Pratchett, he was a true genius. I’m currently re-reading his The Thief of Time, for me one of the best. 😊

Bradbury is tops in m book not matter what genre he’s categorized in. I used to enjoy Terry Brooks. (Believe it or not, I’ve never read “Lord of the Rings.”)

I love Ray Bradbury’s work too. Something Wicked This Way Comes is spellbinding in addition to his Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man.
I also thoroughly enjoyed Christopher Paolini’s Eragon series as a boy. Incredible world building…

Fantasy is not a genre I typically enjoy, however there are two exceptions: I read the entire Harry Potter series, and I was recently introduced to Terry Pratchett whose work I love!

Reblogged this on A Teacher's Reflections and commented:
I often tell Dr. Charles French that he will eventually get the children I teach, or that I have prepared his students. You see, while I teach preschool and he teaches college, we actually teach the same thing – that literature is the greatest teacher. We both read to our students with passion, and follow the many trails that books blaze along the way. I know that my students will come to read Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, because I have read to them Charlotte’s Web and The Story of Doctor Doolittle. Fantasy is imagination, and also inspiration. For me and for Dr. Charles French, it is our greatest teaching tool. We are as excited as our students! Thank you, Charles. Keep reading great literature to your students. I will, too.

A couple to add to your list, both of whom appealed mainly to older children (though, frankly, I found them enjoyable as an adult!) Anyway – Susan Cooper (The Dark is Rising series) and Ursula le Guin (the Earthsea novels). Regards, Mike.
