Here is a wonderful post from the excellent teacher, Jennie!
Covid-19 has actually made teachers rethink how to best teach young children. Â At school, we decided that spending more time outside is better for children. Â We teachers all know the benefits of nature, yet the demands of what children need to learn, including providing opportunities for technology, have pushed nature aside over the years.
Not this year!
At last we are back to basics, the root of investigating and discovery. Thank goodness.
The erosion of outdoor play in schools, and also art and music, has been a thorn in my side for decades. Â Parents want their child to succeed, and they think computer programs and phonics are the way to go. Â They want school to have straight instruction. Â The problem is, children need to figure things out on their own, and that happens with teacher and parent support, not direction.
Public schools answer to parents.  Wouldnât it be wonderful ifâŠ

Thank you for sharing this post, Charles! Your site has changed, and WP won’t let me click ‘like’ or leave a comment. Just wanted you to know I was over there.

Hi Jennie, I don’t know what happened, but thank you.

This has happened on a few other sites. I think WP wants me to use Google Chrome, not Safari. The typing in my name and email was new. Did you add that component to your site?

Jennie, No, I did not–as far as I know, I didn’t change anything.

Hmmm… I think I will ask hubby to try to go to my website and see i f I have the same issue. If so, the Happiness Engineers at WP will be hearing from me. I donât want people to have to jump through hoops to âlikeâ or comment. Thank you, Charles!

Hi Jennie, and please let me know what you find out. Here is a question for you: how do you contact the “Happiness Engineers”?

Go to your dashboard. Scroll down all the way to the bottom of the page. There are a few things you can click on, one of which says âGet Help and Supportâ. Click on that, and go down to the bottom of that page. Look for something like âask a questionâ or âlive chatâ or âcontact usâ. They call themselves the Happiness Engineers. Let me know what you find out.

I think it is a great idea to have children outside. In addition to the learning environment, I wonder if it bolsters the immune system.

Thank you for sharing this! It helps encourage me in my little project… since Covid19 I’ve been making artist books for children. Trying to give children fine art in an accessible way via ebooks and print books. I call an artist book a book conceived as an art object and created almost entirely by one artist. I have most of these books of mine available for free on Storyberries.com and have been told my work and Storyberries have been good resources for teachers…. I certainly hope so!! Everyone needs the outdoors, art and music…
