Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and I would like to offer a few of this extraordinary American’s quotations as a tribute to him. He was one of the finest, most decent, and empathetic people in the history of the United States of America. We should all remember him and honor his teaching, his legacy, and his call for justice for everyone.
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
“There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.”
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
“We must live together as brothers or perish together as fools.”

Reblogged this on alkaplan and commented:
“Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence.”

Great quotes! Reminded me of one of my fave clips from the tv show, the Closer and the one from the Art of War (?) – just because – first the summary of Closer, “The medieval battles between King and Church had been going on forever – the battle between the Pragmatists and the Idealists and usually, it was best to stand on the sidelines and let the two sides duke it out – but sometimes, one side or the other decides they want to blow the whole world up, just to get their own way and once that happens? You can’t stand on the sidelines, anymore – you have to pick a side” and the quote, “The greatest victory is that which requires no battle’ – – as in to say – for me, there are things I will speak up for in hopes a battle need never be fought and things that if the battle must be fought, so be it….” – – ❤ this post!
